Bespoke glass cutting

Glass made to your exact measurements

When a standard sheet or off-the-shelf panel will not fit, made-to-measure glass cut to size gives you the flexibility to specify the dimensions you actually need.

We can produce bespoke glass for a wide range of domestic, commercial and furniture projects. Depending on the product and specification, your glass can include shaped edges, radius corners, polished edges, holes, notches and other fabrication details.

Choose the glass, thickness, shape and finishing requirements for your project, then order with confidence that the final piece is being manufactured to your specification.

Why choose made-to-measure?

One service for projects that need a precise fit

Exact dimensions

Specify measurements in millimetres so your glass is produced for the space, furniture or frame rather than forcing a standard size to fit.

Shapes beyond rectangles

Depending on the product, choose circles, radius corners, angled profiles, notches and other bespoke shapes. More complex designs can be discussed with our team.

Finished for the application

Specify the thickness, edge finish and fabrication details required for your project. All cutting, drilling and edge processing takes place before toughening.

Custom fabrication

More than just a piece of glass

The shape is only one part of a bespoke glass order. The finishing details can make the difference between a basic replacement panel and a properly finished piece of glass.

Polished edges

A polished edge provides a smooth, finished appearance on exposed sides and is particularly useful for furniture, shelves, tables and display glass.

Radius corners

Rounded corners can soften the appearance of a panel and are useful where a design calls for something more refined than sharp square corners.

Holes, notches & cut-outs

Where suitable, holes and cut-outs can be manufactured for fittings, cables, handles, fixings, parasols and other requirements. They must be specified before toughening.

Choose your specification

Clear, low iron, satin and other glass options

The best glass is the one that suits the job. Depending on the product, you may be able to choose from different glass colours, finishes and thicknesses.

  • Clear toughened glass for a versatile, clean appearance.
  • Low iron glass for greater clarity and less visible green tint.
  • Satin or frosted glass where a softer or more private appearance is required.
  • Tinted glass where colour forms part of the design.
  • Back painted glass for a solid colour finish, with colour matching available.
  • Different thicknesses selected according to the application and support requirements.

Back painted glass can be colour matched to RAL, Farrow & Ball and Dulux paint colours. We also offer a colour matching service if you have a specific paint, sample or colour reference you would like us to match. This makes back painted glass a versatile option for splashbacks, furniture, wall panels, doors and other interior projects where you want the glass to coordinate with the surrounding colour scheme.

Not every finish is suitable for every shape, fabrication process or application. If you have a specialist requirement, contact us before ordering.

Colour matched glass

Back painted glass in almost any colour

For projects where clear glass is not the right look, back painted glass provides a smooth, solid colour finish behind the glass. It is an effective way to introduce colour into kitchens, furniture, wall panels, doors, splashbacks and bespoke interiors.

We can match colours from RAL, Farrow & Ball and Dulux ranges, and we also offer a colour matching service for customers who have a particular paint colour, sample or reference they want to reproduce.

Need an exact colour?

Tell us the colour reference you are working with, or contact us about our colour matching service. For the closest possible result, colour matching should be considered alongside the lighting and surrounding materials in the finished installation.

Choosing thickness

What thickness of toughened glass do I need?

Thickness should be selected according to the application rather than simply choosing the thickest available glass. The size of the panel, span, support, fixing method, expected load and environmental conditions can all affect the specification.

Application Key considerations Specification approach
Furniture protector Usually supported continuously by the surface underneath. A suitable thinner option may be appropriate depending on size and use.
Tabletop or breakfast bar Panel dimensions, support and everyday impact. Choose a suitable toughened thickness for the complete furniture design.
Shelf or cabinet panel Span, depth, bracket spacing and load. Thickness and support should be considered together.
Door, screen or architectural panel Fixing system, dimensions, impact risk and relevant requirements. Use the specification appropriate to the complete glazing system; ask for advice where necessary.

For safety-critical, structural or architectural applications, the glass specification must be checked against the complete installation and any applicable requirements. Contact us if you are unsure which thickness or glass type is suitable.

Simple ordering process

How to order glass cut to size

Measure accurately

Take your measurements in millimetres. If the glass is replacing an existing panel, measure the frame, opening or original piece carefully and check several points where the space may be out of square.

Choose the shape

Select a standard shape where available, or contact us about unusual profiles, angled cuts, radius corners and more complex shapes.

Add fabrication details

Specify thickness, edge finish, holes, notches, cut-outs and other details before manufacture.

Check everything before ordering

Toughened glass cannot be cut, drilled or reshaped after the toughening process. Your final dimensions and fabrication details therefore need to be correct before manufacture begins.

Need a shape that is not shown online?

Some bespoke glass projects are difficult to describe using a standard online configurator. If you need an unusual outline, template, cut-out, multiple radii or a larger panel, speak to our team before ordering.

For complex shapes, a drawing or template may be useful to make sure the finished glass matches your requirements.

Toughened safety glass

Why choose toughened glass?

Improved strength

Thermally toughened glass is processed to make it substantially stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness and more resistant to thermal stress.

Safety characteristics

If toughened glass breaks, it is designed to fracture into smaller granular pieces rather than long, sharp shards. This is one reason it is widely used for suitable furniture, interior and architectural applications.

Made for the application

Toughened glass is not automatically suitable for every project. The glass type, thickness, support and installation need to be appropriate for the intended use.

Everyday care

Easy to clean and maintain

Glass is a practical material for furniture and interiors because its smooth surface is simple to keep clean. A soft cloth and suitable glass cleaner are usually all that is required.

  • Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
  • Remove spills and marks regularly.
  • Avoid abrasive pads that could scratch the surface.
  • Take care not to impact exposed edges with hard objects.
  • For installed panels, check that fixings and supports remain secure.
Frequently asked questions

Toughened glass cut to size FAQs

Can you cut toughened glass to any size?

Glass can be manufactured to a wide range of bespoke dimensions, subject to the available glass type, thickness, manufacturing and transport limitations. Enter your measurements where supported or contact us for unusual or large requirements.

Can you make toughened glass in any shape?

Many custom shapes can be manufactured, including rectangles, squares, circles, radius corners and more complex profiles where suitable. A drawing or template may be required for unusual shapes.

Can holes and cut-outs be added to toughened glass?

Yes, where the selected glass and design allow it. Holes, notches and other fabrication details must be completed before the glass is toughened.

Can toughened glass be cut after it has been made?

No. Toughened glass must be cut, shaped, drilled and edge-finished before the toughening process. Once toughened, it cannot safely be altered.

What is toughened glass used for?

Made-to-measure toughened glass is used for table tops, shelves, furniture protection, splashbacks, doors and panels, garden furniture, cabinets, screens and many other domestic and commercial applications, subject to the correct specification.

Is toughened glass stronger than normal glass?

Thermally toughened glass is significantly stronger than annealed glass of the same thickness and has improved resistance to thermal stress. If it breaks, it is designed to fracture into smaller granular pieces.

What thickness of toughened glass should I choose?

The correct thickness depends on the application, dimensions, support, span, fixing method and expected loads. Do not choose thickness from size alone; ask for advice if the specification is structural or safety-critical.

Can back painted glass be matched to RAL, Farrow & Ball or Dulux colours?

Yes. We can match back painted glass to RAL, Farrow & Ball and Dulux paint colours, and we also offer a colour matching service for specific colours or samples. Contact us to discuss the colour you need.

Can you colour match a paint sample for back painted glass?

Yes. We offer a colour matching service for customers who have a particular paint colour, sample or colour reference. Contact us before ordering so we can discuss the required finish and matching process.

What is the difference between toughened and laminated safety glass?

They are different safety-glass products. Toughened glass is heat-treated and designed to break into smaller granular pieces, while laminated glass uses layers bonded together so the glass tends to remain held together when broken. The appropriate type depends on the application.
